Welcome! Please take off your shoes and make yourself comfortable.

I am a faculty member at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Pune, India, where I am Chair of the Physics Programme.

Here is a picture of the Main Academic Building at IISER Pune (click to enlarge):

The research carried out in Physics at IISER covers a diverse range of exciting topics in both experimental and theoretical areas. You can download a PDF of the 2015 brochure of the Physics Programme at IISER by clicking here.

My own research deals with the physics of elementary particles, specifically String Theory and Quantum Field Theory. If you like, you can learn more about these subjects by going to the Physics page of this website. Here you will find my publications and several course lectures notes, articles and videos, as well as links on particle physics and string theory for a general audience.

I write a blog called tantu-jaal that you may like to look at. It is a light-hearted blog that addresses general aspects of science, music, food, cinema, literature, politics and of course the city of Mumbai. I also maintain a webpage in memory of my father, the late Parsram Mukhi. I have a serious interest in Indian Classical Music, on which I spend a large part of my spare time. You will find more about this on my Music page. I maintain a website on the legendary Pandit Kumar Gandharva, a towering intellectual figure in Indian Classical Music.

Some Photographs from my album can be viewed on this site. My other interests include travel, meditation, software, literature, cinema, photography, jazz and rock music, and cooking. I don't claim to be particularly good at any of these (except perhaps cooking).

My guiding principle:

sarve bhavantu sukhinah

(may everyone be happy)
